Every town follows the same state process, in which you apply at your local department online through the MIRCS Unified Gun Portal or on paper, and the fee for most applicants is $100. The sections below show what the Sandwich department adds to it.

Appointments and hours

  • Once received, you will be contacted with a processing date.
  • APPLICATIONS ARE NOW ACCEPTED BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
  • Please do not drop the application off and leave.
  • Please contact firearmslicensing@sandwichmass.org to schedule an appointment.

What to bring

  • You are required to attend a State Police certified safety course prior to issuance of the license.
  • The Sandwich Police Department does not offer the required safety course.

Fees and payment

  • The fee for the application is $100 for all firearms licenses including renewals (unless you are 70 years of age or older in which renewals are free) and $25 for a restricted FID card for chemical sprays, FID cards for those under the age of 18 and active or retired law enforcement Officers.
  • (Check or money order made payable to the Town of Sandwich).

Fingerprints and interview

  • You must be fingerprinted and photographed as part of the application process.

Renewals

  • All renewal applications must be submitted with an affidavit regarding the reporting of lost or stolen firearms since the issuance of the previous license (Last page of application).
