Every town follows the same state process, in which you apply at your local department online through the MIRCS Unified Gun Portal or on paper, and the fee for most applicants is $100. The sections below show what the Halifax department adds to it.

How to apply

  • If you would like to drop the application off in person, or pay by cash, you may do so on one of the licensing dates, which are posted in the lobby.

What to bring

  • A copy of your Approved Safety Course Certificate; and,

Fees and payment

  • Please include a check or money order made out to the town of Halifax.
  • Cash or check made payable to the Town of Halifax.
  • New or Renewal FID or LTC is $100
  • Renewal over 70 is Free
  • New FID Restricted under 18 is $25

Processing time

  • Licenses and receipts will be mailed to your address on file.

Renewals

  • Firearms licensing for renewals maybe dropped off anytime at the Halifax Police Station form box located in the lobby.
