Every town follows the same state process, in which you apply at your local department online through the MIRCS Unified Gun Portal or on paper, and the fee for most applicants is $100. The sections below show what the New Bedford department adds to it.

What to bring

Please be advised that if you fail to provide us with the following documents on the date of your scheduled appointment, the appointment will be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date.
Applicants are required to bring one (1) of the following documents to prove their New Bedford residency and/or business: utility invoice, credit card invoice, cable invoice, bank statement, certified voter registration, business registration, etc.
Applicants must provide (2) self-addressed envelopes.

Fees and payment

Personal checks, bank checks, and money orders are the only forms of payment accepted.
Please make checks payable to: City of New Bedford.

Fingerprints and interview

Photos and fingerprints will be taken by the Firearm’s Division during your appointment.

Renewals

Please be advised that LTC/FID renewals are done by a drop off mailbox.
The mailbox is in located the lobby of 871 Rockdale Ave.
