Every town follows the same state process, in which you apply at your local department online through the MIRCS Unified Gun Portal or on paper, and the fee for most applicants is $100. The sections below show what the Taunton department adds to it.
How to apply
- Once you have completed your application and have your Basic Firearms Safety/Hunter Safety Course Certificate, if required, bring your application, certificate and application fee to the Clerk’s Office at the police station on Monday through Thursday between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
Fees and payment
- There is a $100.00, non-refundable fee for all first time applicants and renewals under seventy (70) years of age.
- The Clerk’s Office will take cash, personal checks or money orders.
Fingerprints and interview
- New applicants that utilize the portal still need to come in for fingerprinting, therefore please drop off a copy of your LTC/FID application with a copy of your safety certificate and the records department will schedule you for an appointment.
