Every town follows the same state process, in which you apply at your local department online through the MIRCS Unified Gun Portal or on paper, and the fee for most applicants is $100. The sections below show what the Brookline department adds to it.
How to apply
- Firearms license applications for both new applicants and renewals will be accepted by mail or in-person at the front desk of the Public Safety Building located at 350 Washington St.
Fingerprints and interview
- First time applicants will be contacted and scheduled for appointments in order to be interviewed and to be fingerprinted and photographed.
- A live fire “Moon Island” Range Course will be scheduled during the interview.
Processing time
- Applicants will be notified of completion of the application process.
Renewals
- Renewal applicants will generally not be required to make an in-person appointment for an application to be processed.
