Every town follows the same state process, in which you apply at your local department online through the MIRCS Unified Gun Portal or on paper, and the fee for most applicants is $100. The sections below show what the Medfield department adds to it.

How to apply

  • Please complete the application packet and return to the Police Station.
  • A completed application packet is required for all new and renewal applications.

What to bring

  • New applicants must submit a SAFETY COURSE CERTIFICATION OR HUNTER SAFETY COURSE CERTIFICATION.
  • ASEPARATE LETTER TO THE MEDFIELD POLICE CHIEF OUTLINING YOUR REASONS FOR THE APPLICATION OF A LTC/FID IS REQUIRED, EVEN FOR RENEWALS.

Fees and payment

  • A check for $100.00 payable to the Town of Medfield must be attached.

Fingerprints and interview

  • For all first time applicants a complete set of FINGERPRINTS will be taken by the licensing officer at the Medfield Police Department.
  • All PHOTOS are taken from the registry and will be the same as your driver's license photo.

Processing time

  • The process may take up to four (4) months.

Renewals

  • If you are over 70 years of age and you are applying for an LTC renewal, there is no fee.
  • If you are renewing, please complete the LOST/STOLEN AFFIDAVIT, this is required.
