Every town follows the same state process, in which you apply at your local department online through the MIRCS Unified Gun Portal or on paper, and the fee for most applicants is $100. The sections below show what the Marlborough department adds to it.

- Applicants for a new firearms license or renewing an existing license can apply either online through the MIRCS Unified Portal at https://www.mass.gov/firearms-services or in person by scheduling an appointment with a licensing officer.
What to bring
- Out-of-state courses do not meet the criteria for Massachusetts Firearms Licensing.
Fees and payment
- IF YOU CHOOSE THE ONLINE OPTION, YOU MUST CONTACT A LICENSING OFFICER WITHIN TEN DAYS OF FILING THE APPLICATION TO ARRANGE PAYMENT OF THE APPLICATION FEE.
- A check or money order made payable to the City of Marlborough is the only acceptable form of payment.
- The application fee covers processing costs and is non-refundable if you are denied the license.
