Every town follows the same state process, in which you apply at your local department online through the MIRCS Unified Gun Portal or on paper, and the fee for most applicants is $100. The sections below show what the Wakefield department adds to it.

How to apply

  • LTC and FID applications will be accepted through the firearms portal or in person (paper application).
  • All applicants will need to complete the application process in person at the Wakefield Police Station.
  • PAPER APPLICANTS: PLEASE SUBMIT THE COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM WITH THE APPLICATION FEE AND ANY OTHER REQUIRED PAPERWORK TOGETHER IN A COMPLETE PACKAGE.

Fees and payment

  • All portal applicants will need to bring payment when they come in for processing.
  • Bring a check or money order in the amount of $100 made out to the “Town of Wakefield”.

Renewals

  • Renewal applicants will need to respond to the station at least 3 business days after they submit their application.
  • No appointment is necessary for renewal applicants.
