Every town follows the same state process, in which you apply at your local department online through the MIRCS Unified Gun Portal or on paper, and the fee for most applicants is $100. The sections below show what the Shirley department adds to it.

Appointments and hours

  • Completed applications and fees must be dropped off Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm.

What to bring

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation must be included for new license request.
  • Letters must be from a non-relative.
  • First time applications must provide a copy of a Firearms Safety Certificate completed within the last 12 months.
  • Please include SSN, though the application states "optional".
  • Please sign and date page 4, though it states that the page is to be filled out for renewals only.

Fees and payment

  • $100 check or money order made to the Town of Shirley
  • Cash will not be accepted.

Processing time

  • All identification cards must be picked up in person.

Renewals

  • Renewals should be submitted to the Police Department 90 days prior to expiration.
